The role of the centre

The role of the smart farming centre is, through or via research and education to foster the adoption of smart devices, connectivity, data analytics, while building a strong smart ecosystem around multi-disciplinary stakeholders that benefit from their business relationships by leveraging the implemented ICT systems to allow multi-party collaboration.

The centre deals with the following main issues:

  • Define sustainable business models ensuring that costs of smart solutions are properly distributed in the value chain.
  • Account the needs of both large and small farmers and demonstrate feasibility and the benefits of pilot solutions in both contexts.
  • Demonstrate an easier acceptance of the agri-technologies in the market based a sound business model. The added value of smart technologies should be tested, validated and demonstrated in practice.
  • Software and application management interfaces should be adequately adapted to ensure acceptability and ease of adoption by end-users.
  • Societal acceptance of the new technologies, tools or processes tested should also be included as a dissemination objective.
