Our research

BCE is a fast-growing international department at Aarhus University, driven by a strong purpose: We want to use our excellence in science and our advancements in biological and chemical engineering to address the global challenges of climate, energy, food, and health.

BCE is a young department with a high growth. Therefore, we are busy building up our science portfolio and welcoming talented people from all over the world with skills and ambitions to conduct excellent research.

Our portfolio is broad, and we have researchers who work in widely differing areas of biological and chemical engineering. We are increasingly facing research challenges that either require critical mass to make progress, or that cannot be solved from one perspective alone, and therefore we have developed a culture of intensive collaboration between colleagues from our own research sections, and with colleagues from other departments and centres at Aarhus University.

We are also looking outwards, at external opportunities and at societal needs. We have a rich tradition of collaborating with industry in a different way than many other universities. We have the capacity to meet companies with a combined theoretical and experimental approach, and invite them to use our world class lab scale and pilot scale facilities. This is one of the factors that makes BCE excel at technology transfer. We have very close partnerships with the business community through which we drive change, support global sustainable development, and transform industrial practises.
