Can natural products be used as a basis for green lighting technology? In a collaboration with other physicists, chemical engineers, and other chemists, we developed  8-Hydroxyquinoline, a natural product from the fungus Cortinarius subtortus and Persian shallot Allium stipitatum, into a metal-free, natural product platform molecule for true green lighting.
