Dear Colleagues,
Our group ‘Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing’ started in July 2018 at Aarhus University in Biological and Chemical Engineering Section. I am looking forward to establishing collaborations within the Aarhus University as well as with the other national and international colleagues focusing on using enzymes for the synthesis of bulk-, fine- and speciality-chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
Joining forces would enable us to develop ecologically and economically attractive bioprocesses to meet the requirements of the highly productive biotransformations in a technical environment.
Sincerely yours,
Selin Kara
Festival of Research 2021:
The Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing research group will be present at the online version of the AU Festival of Research 2021. This event will take place on April 28th, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On the occasion of this Festival, Dr. Santiago Chanquia, Piera De Santis and Milica Milic, three young researchers from our group, will be presenting some of the latest advancements and projects being developed in our labs to the general public in a fun and straightforward way. We hope to see you there!

2020:
2019:
October 11th 2019 - October 15th 2019: Markus Hobisch and Alex Cordellier attended the training events/conferences 4 of the H2020-MSCA ITN-EJD PhotoBioCat project "Creative Vision Workshop" in Cologne, Germany and "Team leadership skills" in Wageningen University & Research, The Netherlands (for more information about the EU PhotoBioCat project, follow this Internet link: http://www.photobiocat.eu/).
The "Creative Vision Workshop", aiming at helping the Early Stage Researchers of the H2020-MSCA ITN-EJD PhotoBioCat project to formulate science in an artistic way, was supervised by the German artist Rozbeh Asmani (website: rozbehasmani.de/), in collaboration with the society Dakota Textildruck (website: http://dakota-textildruck.org/). A training programme to learn about team development, team roles and (personal) leadership was provided in workshop "Team leadership skills" to the H2020-MSCA ITN-EJD PhotoBioCat project’s ESRs by the internationally operating Dutch based agency People Plus Human Development (website: https://peopleplus.nl/en/).2018:
February - An essay about gender inbalance in academia, with focus on the natural and technical sciences, was co-authored by six female scientists, including Assoc.-Prof. Selin Kara, and published in 'Profile 2020', the Department of Engineering's magazine.
December - Two articles entitled "Rare algae enzyme to convert cooking oil into ready-to-use biofuel" and "She uses mushroom enzyme and light to create green chemicals" about new research projects from the Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing group within the field of photobiocatalysis, financed by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Sapere Aude funding from the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF) respectively, have been published online on the AU Department of Engineering website.
September - An article entitled "EUR 3.7M for academia and industry to pave the way for sustainable production of chemicals" about the EU H2020-MSCA ITN-EID project INTERfaces, that will be coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Selin Kara, has been published on EurekAlert!. You can also find it on the AU Engineering website.
November - An article entitled "Lys og boblebad skal gøre bakterier og enzymer til højtydende kemikaliefabrikker" about Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selin Kara's research conducted at Aarhus University and the EU H2020-MSCA ITN-EJD project PhotoBioCat has been published in INGENIØREN magazine.
